Venu Chatri At Art Ichol
Maihar Workshop Madhya Pradesh
VenuChatri In Maihar, Madhya Pradesh is an attempt to create an exquisite structure highlighting the use of Bamboo in traditional buildings, combined with the weaving expertise of the region. The structure was constructed as part of a rapid workshop conducted to demonstrate the application of bamboo technology even in India’s rural remote regions.
The structure is a free-flowing shell reflecting the art And culture of the locals along with the fluidity of nature. The design Is a shell structure, it depicts the continuity and transmits all forces in different directions on the surface of the Shell, as required. The plastering has been done to leave certain portions of the underlying grid exposed adding a sense of transparency and lightness to the entire structure. The exposed grid also showcases the underlying structural systems used in construction and prominently highlights the unique weaving patterns found in this region by juxtaposition with the white solid plastered portion of the structure.
The structure was fabricated by drawing talent and skilled artisans from the local community showcasing the revival of bamboo-based technologies. Local knowledge served as an important source for this project.
