Bamboo House Rajmundry
Manasaram Architects
With the growing concentration of human settlements mass housing developments are increasingly becoming the norm. This project sought to develop a model prototype for a sustainable approach to mass housing. The use of bamboo and natural materials like timber and mud make this prototype a blueprint for future sustainable projects. Commissioned by the Department of Forest, Andhra Pradesh, the prototype was envisioned to demonstrate a mass housing solution for government staff housing.
The entire structure is supported by 4” Bamboo columns and all walls are made using bamboocrete and finished with whitewash. Bamboo being an easily available material in remote regions this solution can be easily deployed using locally available labour and knowledge. The doors and window are of Jungle wood frame with BMB and glazing for the Shutters. The pyramidal roof is BMCS fixed on 2” Bamboo battens, 3” dia. Bamboo rafters and 4”dia Bamboo pole beams. The rustic feel of the project is complemented by the red oxide flooring keeping the structure cool and reducing the requirement for cooling.
