Bamboo Symphony

Manasaram Architects

The gazebo topped by its pyramidal-shaped roof and supported by unique clustered bamboo stanchions was initially envisioned as a shaded outdoor space on CGBMT’s erstwhile headquarters. Constructed by means of a three-way collaboration between artisans, motivated individuals, and industry experts, the structure pioneered the technology of bamboo trusses as columns.

The stanchions that support the roof are a notable feature of the structure. Unlike conventional steel stanchions that are vertically upright, the flexibility of bamboo enabled the stanchion to take an outward bend adding to the dynamic nature of the structure. The outward bend is complemented by the inner column bending inward towards the skylight, thereby enabling the column itself to serve as support for the roof structure.

An L-shaped bench defines one corner of the gazebo while leaving the other corner open for performing activities. The skylight at the pinnacle of the roof admits filtered light into the structure.
